ACPO Councillor Connector – Ovie Ekewenu

Ovie Ekewenu, C. Chem.
ACPO District 2 Councillor
Scientist, Federal Public Service

Why would you encourage a colleague to join the ACPO?

Being a member of the ACPO provides the opportunity to nurture effective and collaborative networks and relationships with communities of practice, colleagues, and stakeholders in the chemical industry.

How has ACPO brought value to your career?

The ACPO provided the opportunity to leverage existing networks in the chemical industry, and with relevant regulatory agencies.

What Chemical Industry do you work in? What do you love about your Industry?

I currently work with a federal regulatory agency. I take pleasure in contributing to the health and safety of society, and in knowing how my work advances environmental sustainability.

Why would you encourage a student to major in the Chemistry field?

Chemistry is a foundational science that provides career opportunities in five main sectors: industry, academia, government, non-profit, and entrepreneurship. It also helps students to find personal fulfillment in their ability to see the connection between chemistry and virtually everything around them.

If you could have coffee with any chemist in history, who would that be and why?

I would like to have coffee with August Kekulé whose inner vision and contribution to the understanding of the aromatic structure of benzene and synthetic organic chemistry is invaluable.
